Montenegro Visa Requirements for Nigerian Citizens

This document provides official information regarding visa requirements, application procedures, and entry regulations for citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria seeking entry into Montenegro.

1. Visa Requirement Overview

Pursuant to the Law on Foreigners and the Regulation on Visas, Nigerian citizens must obtain a visa prior to entry into Montenegro for all purposes of stay, including tourism, business, family visits, employment, education, and transit.

3. Visa-Free Entry Exemptions

Nigerian citizens holding valid visas or residence permits issued by the following jurisdictions may enter Montenegro visa-free for up to 30 days:

  • Schengen Area countries (multiple or double entry)
  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Canada
  • Ireland

The foreign visa or residence permit must remain valid throughout the stay.

4. Visa Categories

Type A – Airport Transit Visa
Transit within international airport zone only.

Type B – Transit Visa
Transit through Montenegro territory (maximum 5 days).

Type C – Short-Stay Visa
Up to 90 days within 180 days (tourism, business, family visit). Employment not permitted.

Type D – Long-Stay Visa
For employment, university studies, family reunification, or long-term stay. Temporary residence permit required within 10 days of arrival.

5. Application Process for Nigerian Citizens

Montenegro visa applications are processed through the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Abuja.

6. Required Documentation

  • Completed visa application form
  • Valid Nigerian passport (minimum 3 months validity beyond stay)
  • Two biometric photographs (35mm x 45mm)
  • Travel health insurance (€30,000 coverage)
  • Proof of financial means (€50–€100 per day)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Round-trip flight reservation

7. Additional Documents by Purpose

Tourism: Travel itinerary and ties to Nigeria.

Business: Invitation letter from Montenegro entity.

Employment (Type D): Work authorization and employment contract.

Studies: University acceptance letter and tuition confirmation.

Family Reunification: Marriage/birth certificates and residence documents.

8. Visa Fees

  • Type A: €35
  • Type B: €35
  • Type C: €60–€100
  • Type D: €100–€150

Visa fees are non-refundable.

9. Entry into Montenegro

  • Valid passport with visa
  • Accommodation proof
  • Return ticket
  • Travel insurance
  • Financial proof

All foreign nationals must register within 24 hours of arrival.

10. Grounds for Refusal

  • Incomplete documentation
  • Insufficient financial proof
  • Invalid passport

11. Important Notes

Montenegro does not currently operate an eVisa system for Nigerian citizens. Applications must be submitted in person at the authorized diplomatic mission.

Overstaying a visa may result in fines, deportation, or entry bans.
